I'm considering just saving the money and going with the 337 since I'll have an HC cable box and don't really think I'll need the built-in tuner...plus, IMO the silver of the 337 looks better then the black 537.yes the 337h, no tuner
working great so far, just waiting to get rid of the huge tv next to it so i can settle it down in its final resting place and calibrate it with avia
I disagree in the statement that B&W is in a different class, sure some of what they make may well be but the majority of what they produce is in competitive price class with a great number of speaker manufacturers like Paradigm. You are a B&W fanboi, so you are hardly objective on the subject. You prefer the sound of B&W, that's awesome, I am glad you have found what you like. As for the amp determining the sound, you are correct, a pre/pro + dedicated amp will nearly always sound better than a reciever, but the differences are very subtle IMO until you spend the enormous jack it takes to buy Rotel or Classe. I agree my speakers don't compare well to some of the B&W speakers that cost twice as much, but you can't possibly say those B&W speakers sound twice as good. If you have the financial means to buy the very best you can be concerned with the smallest of nuances, but you will pay for that difference. My point is at any given price point the quality is virtually the same from brand to brand and it is simply a matter of preference. There are some that would argue Dynaudio makes better HT speakers than B&W, and for those that prefer Dyn that would be a factual statement. That's my opinion- it is not fact that B&W makes the most superior speakers ever- it is fact that they make some of them along with several other companies, and your opinion of the best can be different from mine and there is nothing wrong with that. Shit, some think Bose stuff is awesome- people that have never heard real home theater stuff....Listening and watching TV's and Speakers is the key to finding what looks the best to your eyes and ears. Paradigm isn't really in the same class as B&W. I'm sure the reason they sound "warmer" or "fatter" is because the mid->low-mid range is much fuller and natural. (Difference between a higher end speaker and a sony book shelf system, the sony system sounds less warm or fat than the higher end one) It's all in what you are used to listening to. Also, the equipment used to power/drive the speakers make a BIG effect on higher end gear. The Paradigm you can get away with running cheaper gear, while B&W's you can run that same equipment but when you upgrade to Rotel, Arcam, or something crazy like Classe the difference is rather large...
Well first of all you can't measure what sounds better or not so you can't put a multiplier on it, you can with a monetary value like dollars. To some people that extra money is way worth what it costs to get a better item. I do agree that sound is very very subjective but you are just as much subjective your way as I am mine. I'm sure that I have listened to just as many if not more setups with a much more technical disposition. I don't know your background in audio but I presume it's much different than mine. Paradigm is a different class of speaker because of the components used, price range, and construction methods. They, to me, are a totally difference class of speaker. They don't compete at all to my ears with brands such as B&W, Dali, Sonus Faber, or Gamut. These speakers are much more expensive, but I have the means and the need for that extra bit. So it's a lot more valuable to me, as it's not to you.I disagree in the statement that B&W is in a different class, sure some of what they make may well be but the majority of what they produce is in competitive price class with a great number of speaker manufacturers like Paradigm. Maybe the girl wouldn't mind anymore then....Sub under the bed...durGet some bassshakers
How old are they? If over 16 kick them out now... They will be fine... haha....8 years ago I had Paradigm bipolar fronts and rears with a paradigm center and loved them. I didnt need a sub but added one and it was killer. I have always wanted B&Ws but couldnt afford them. Maybe when the kids are gone I can get a new system.
