how come no one asks how far you are running the wire? what if he has a bmw or dodge withthe battery in the trunk? the amp has 8awg inputs right? i would run 8 and you will be fine.

500rms on 8 gauge is not smart. I doubt that only has 8 gauge inputs

Interesting, it does. I would use 4 gauge with a reducer then. Hell even my 300rms highs amp has 4 gauge inputs
