What fuse should I run? (Newbie)

I'm not doing anything dramatic, I just needed a little more power to my speakers so I'm installing a Rockford 500x Punch (4 Channel Amp, 62.5RMS at 4ohms). The I need the fuse for my power wire which is a stinger Pro series 8 Gauge and I am running a MIDI style fuseable link.

Thanks!

No no no, I'm not looking to "get more power" from adding a larger fuse. I'm wondering what fuse I should get. I'm adding more power to the speakers by adding the amp in the first place //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

So the question is, what fuse do I need for the amp/power cable? I don't want to go too small and have it blow the fuse because a MIDI is hard to come across around here, and I don't want to go too large and have the power cable ground out to something, not blow the fuse and start a fire.

A 40 amp fuse should work fine.
You have no idea what amp he's running and simply can't give a proper idea of what fuse to run. Like I said, on the amp they're are fuses. Add those up and add 20. For instance, if there are 3 20a fuses on your amp, 3*20a=60a and add 20 for a safe bet giving you 80a. So they're ya go, put an 80a fuse on the primary line.

KaeZoo - I was thinking 40-50 in the first place, but I'm going to wait for two more people to back you up before I order. Thanks! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

BTW, if the amplifier is internally fused at higher than 50A, then maybe you should look into 4awg PWR wire. 8awg should do, but safer is better, ya know?

Actually, the amp does not have a fuseable link (Is not internally fused), also, the max wire input it can physically hold in it's socket is an 8 gauge. This is the first amp that I have worked with that does not have a fuseable link built into it. I'm doubting power will surge and fry the amp, everything in the car is basic (Minus the fact I'm keeping my **** A/C), so unless the alternators regulator goes crazy on me, hopefully I wont have to worry about it. My main concern was if somehow over time this wire were to break in some sort of way and ground itself, the fuse would pop before it started the car on fire. Also, I didn't want to have too small of a fuse so it would blow when I turned the radio on (obviously).

But if the Regulator goes nuts, I'll worry about my EFI before I worry about Ultraspank.

I'm saying, no matter what the fuse style is, if the fuse is rated at 50 amps, shouldn't the fuse blow at or slightly after 50 amps?

Note that the amplifier's maximum current draw is based on its maximum power output, which would require a 2-ohm load. You won't be reaching the maximum with 4-ohm speakers, so a 40 amp fuse should work fine. Of course a 50 amp fuse wouldn't hurt anything, but it might be easier to find a 40-amp than a 50-amp fuse.
