What do you think of this budget setup? Alpine/Hertz/Hifonics/JL

my mistake i confused the op with prcwitt however everything said still stands. Ok so you were an installer for 2 years. Just for my own curiosity how long ago was that? You of all people should know where im comin from then. I dont know you nor you me nor do i know or care what you do for a living however you have no idea what im capable. of..

do me a favor, and yourself, and go reread his post(s) the only mention of a warranty is that the comps come with a 3year. it isnt a highlight nor does it come across as if that was the selling point for him on those comps. it was listed casually nowhere does he state im going through the shop because everything has a warrany. in fact he says the only reason is because he doesnt feel like doing it himself and he cant make the enclosure. this is where i SUGGEST just **** it up shop online and diy, let the shop make the enclosure.
just an FYI i've been an installer before, when i was around 18 - 20 piece of cake. better chance of me doing your job than you doing mine, believe it.
car audio has changed a little in 15 yrs, theres alot more to installation than amps and head units...

it was a while ago, and the only thing that would make a diff. time length wise is new technology, but we arent talking about that here. the sales aspect is pretty much unchanged. as far as what you are capable of would be on the craftsman side of things, again my stance on the whole issue has always been to have the shop make the enclosure. im not arguing that part, you can find many talented craftsman im a shop garage. i am a tradesman these days i work with steel more than wood. welding and fitting/forming. if you want to see some of my work google "virginia class nuclear submarine"

are you a navy man? or a governent contractor? either way, pretty cool, My main argument is the people who constantly reccomend getting the equipment online not realizing what it is doin to the industry, 9 out of 10 dealers will give you a great price if you go about it thye right way

so you would be someone to talk to about the welder im lookin at buying. if it realy has been that many years then the job hasnt changed for the most part as much as the cars have changed both for the negative and the positive. My apologies to the op for letting this stray the way it has. I just know how hard it is for the guys out there working commission having spent the last couple of years working my behind off for beans so when i see someone maybe throwing them some labor i try to help them get it. I still believe for a shop purchased system you are getting a great deal and that you should go ahead with it. as for those esks they are no slouch ive seen them sell a set of mlks to a customer who bought them as factory relacements for his wife. His comment was " if this is what i get for 150 i cant imagine what 600 will get me.

i work for a government contractor.

i can see how the internet would hurt the industry a bit. but shops need to get creative, like how about mobilizing. like sat tv and cable installers but moble audio. have a fleet of vans and employees that make house calls (or driveway calls). some1 needs a basic install, like wires ran or just a factory speaker location upgrade or a HU. roll on out to peoples houses n do it up. hell, you could do a HU install in the parking lot while the customer is in work. the possabilities are endless. worst case if you cant beat them join them. start doing the same thing accept offer installation. 1 stop discount auto shop.

edit* look at all the trouble shooting questions on the forums. imagine a shop that for a small fee that will drive right out to you and check it out. $$ to be made here.

Thanks for the help guys.

Most complaints are about the W1, the problem is if I step up to a better sub I would also have to step up the amp so that would cost a couple hundred more and I'm already at the max I want to spend. The guy at the shop said the W1 was pretty decent for the price. Like I said I don't need huge bass, just a decent setup. I'm looking at the hertz subs and I might be able to get an ES250 for a decent price. I'll talk to the shop on monday and see what they think. I could maybe spring for the 4 channel ZXI Hifonics amp but the BXI series looks too pricey.

The shop carries a lot of different brands but no Cadence or Image Dynamics.

So what do you guys think of the specs on the Hertz ES250? You can check out the Hertz stuff here: http://www.hertzaudiovideo.com/default_en.htm

ES250 is rated as follows:

250W rms/500W peak at 4 ohm

frequency response: 28hz - 300hz

sensitivty: 89 db/SPL

Here are the W1 specs:

* Sensitivity: 84.53 dB

* RMS Power Range : 150 Watts

* Peak Power Handling: 300 Watts

* Impedance: 4 Ohm

So it should be better than a W1 and I think the shop would sell it to me for around $135. The Hifonics txi6408 amp should be able to power this sub and front components, right? Should I step up to the ZXI6410 ($199) even though it has the same specs or does it matter? The specs on the txi are below:

* Titan series 680-Watt A/B-class 4-channel amplifier

* 2/3/4-Channel operation

* 340-Watts RMS x 2-ch @ 4-Ohm

* 170-Watts RMS x 4-ch @ 2-Ohm

* 85-Watts RMS x 4-ch @ 4-Ohm

* A/B-Class amplifier topography

* Bridgeable design

* 3-Channel Mode - left, right and subwoofer

* High speed MOSFET couputs

* Illuminated Hifonics Logo

* MOSFET EXVP power supply

* SPC twin turbo torroids

* Fully adjustable Accu-Cross crossovers, 12db high-pass/24db low-pass

* Bass boost: 10db variable bass equalization

* RCA line output - permits amplifier daisy-chaining

* 4-Guage power connectors

butt hurt no however i am irritated by your unsubstantiated assumptions that what i do and where i work makes me unbiased. Pardon me for showing my irritation at your retardation
I think you constantly taste fish due to the balls always in your mouth.........Hot sweaty, fishy balls.............and you are black to boot......so big black balls in your mouth........//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Like what?

Most general people put a deck, some comps or regular speakers in and then subs, box, amps, maybe a crossover, running the wire, and bingo-bango! It isn't that hard. Hell if I can do it, anybody could. Reason I have had installs was due to me either a, being lazy, or B due to my bad back.

I will never go back to a shop.....and I worked the front desk from a hack shop, so I know what I was told to say to sell shit and have seen some messed up shit. Not saying all are like that, but a lot are.

It is a dieing industry anyway and what is wrong with people doing shit themselves?

Seriously guys, if you don't have anything to say regarding the components I'm asking about, then shut up.

I'm lazy and I can afford to pay a shop to do the install. Installing it myself isn't up for debate so stick to the topic.

I know most of you haven't used any hertz subs but just looking at the specs it looks better than a W1, right? The TXI6408 should have enough power to run either of these subs, correct?

Thanks,

Alex
