What do you guys use for your HPF?

Hey,

I was wondering what setting you guys use for your HPF? Right now I have mine set to 120Hz on my HU so that 120Hz down doesnt go to my speakers and I have it set to 120Hz on my Subwoofer amp so that 120Hz down goes to my sub.

On my HU I have 80/120/160, should I use the 80 instead? If I put 80 on my HU I have to match that on my subwoofer amp or else I would be losing some frequencies right? Like If I had 120 on the HU and 80 on the amp, from 120-80 would have nowhere to go...

But I could probably do 80 on the HU and 120 on the sub, then my coaxs would get down to 80 and my sub would grab from 120 down. So from 120-80 both the coaxs and sub would be playing them...

What do you guys think?

Every system/environment/listener-preference will require a different answer to your question. Personally I like low passing my sub as low as possible, 80hz being about as HIGH as Id ever want it. But sometimes a crappy front stage wont allow that to happen.

Well I guess the question is more, to what frequency do you think my mediocre front stage can handle?

In the rear I have Pioneer TS-A6962R 6x9s and in the front I have Pioneer TS-A1646 6.5s. They are rated at 40W RMS and 35W RMS. They are currently running off the 18Ws of the HU (CDA-9883). I might run the 6x9s off an old 25W Pioneer amp (GM-900) in the near future.

Running as is do you guys think that these speakers can handle down to 80Hz? Or would I be better off keeping them at 120?

Personally i'd go with 120 becuase then you have a much lesser chance of blowing your speakers. Also some of the music i listen to the bass line is a lil high, so it takes care of that. And yes, if you put ur HU to 120, and your amp to 80, then you will loose ~40hz.
