i installed a system in my 1990 lincoln mark vii. at first everything was workin perfect. one day when i started the car i hear a crazy noise that sounds like altinator whine. every time i changed songs turned volume all the way down etc. then i started hearin it all the time. i reran my my wires cause i ran the possitive down the same side as the rca's. even after changin the rca's to the other side of the car im still gettin this noise. any one have any ideas as to why im gettin this noise???

if you hear the alternator, its the alternator. what system are you running? cause if its too big you need a bigger batt and alternator. if its small buy a cap.

check ur ground on your mids amp make sure its to bare metal and still tight

also check ur radio ground

other option is to ground your rcas to ur h/u chassis with a small piece of wire

if its a whine why would it be the wires? if it was clipping i would understand.
The whine you are hearing is electro-magnetic feild noise, called EMF. It can be introduced into the sound system either thru the power, audio calbes, or directly into the preamps/amps if the magnetic field is close enough. Usually it's either a ground wire has become loose, or an rca cable has been damaged. This causes the remaining cable to act like an antenna and pick up EMF and radio frequency noise and then it gets amplified by your sound system.

Less likely, but possible, is your alternator or regulator is dying and is now generating a huge uncontrolled emf field. You could have your alternator and regulator checked, but first I would check all the wires, power grounds and RCA connectors.

Look for sharp bends where the cable comes out of the RCA connectors. Wiggle them and see if you hear any pops. If you do that's the problem. Replace the RCA or re-solder a new connector on.

great advice/ what is causeing alt wine.. allot of people dont exactly know what causes it.

usually grounding the chassis of the radio and rca's will take the noise away..
