What do you guys think of my design (with pics)

all right guys, here is the design i am thinking of doing for my friend. Its going to be 2 15" kicker L7s with 2,000W RMS in a expedition. I have 2 ideas in here. Which one would you go with or would you do it all together different.

Idea 1:

port:

6 X 16.25 X 14.75

(with wood : 7 1/2 X 16.25 X 14.75)

Displacement: 1798"

Woofer displacement : 0.20

Required space: 9.0 ft cubed

Minimum box size: 10.24ft cubed

37.5 X 16.25 X 29 or 10.23 ft cubed

Idea 2

port:

6 X 16.25 X 14.75

(with wood : 6.75 X 17.75 X 14.75

Displacement : 1767"

Woofer displacement : 0.20

Required space: 9.0 ft cubed

Minimum box size: 10.22ft cubed

33 X 23 X 23.5 or 10.32 ft cubed

My preference is with idea 2 I think only because its alot slimmer and I think it will fit alot easier. how do you guys think they will sound? Sorry for the crappy images.. I only have paint available and I'm not very artistic anyway.

i would choose the first design.but add alot more braceing.and possably bump up the port area a bit more. somewhere around 117sq".

david, do you mean to just physicaly flip the box upside down on the second one? thats what its sounds like your saying, in which case that wouldnt change the sound at all, simply port location pref (on bottom vs. top)

hofulstrof, this is a rough plan, your definatly right, that kinda power and those subs needs alot of bracing. with the bigger port area what kinda lengther would I have to go?

How do you think Idea 2 would sound as is, (with more bracing then shown?)

He means drop the port to the bottom instead of up at the top, then position the subs on top so that they are firing up.

both ideas will work great.and the more area the longer the port.

i suggest you download winisd and play arond with it

oh, thanks for clearing that up, whats the advantage? I had always heard that having the opening of the port right behind the sub sounds crappy, but I have been out of the game for a while.

ok if you bump the port area up to 115sq" the port will be about an 1" longer. but remeber these are rough estimates. and your tuneing will be around 35hz.

either set up will rock.

Is this gonna be the kinda system that drops low and will really blow his mind? For example on songs along the line of what.... I dont know, what Ludacris does, you know hes got alot of deep rolling bass in most his songs. Will those kinda songs really sound clean and bump outa control?

And hofustrol, is your more port area and longer port just to make the box more efficent? I mean if I keep the general disign of plan 2 and just make the port wider and deeper I can do what you said easy. So would it just sound the same (tuning wise) but get louder?

I'm afraid to deviate away from manufacturers specs but you guys seem to know what your talking about here and free volume is always nice...

i would expect your drivers to start unloading around 30hz.... but remeber we are both working with rough numbers so things could change..... and as for sounding clean. i doubt it.

the reason i suggesed more port area was so you dont end up with port noise.it really doesnt have anything to do with effecieny

Ok. what do you mean "Unloading." So you think if I go with your specs for port area it will sound alot better on the whole? I'm not worried about loudness... the fact that there square 15s and he has 2000 watts will handle that, I want to make sure they sound at least resonably clean. Obviously not a purely SQ setup, but some quality would be nice. I cant find a actual tech spec sheet on the 04 L7

but from the stuff I did see, when I ran it in a port calculator program, i came up with numbers alot closer to yours for port area.

displacement : 2793.66 (1.62cube ft.)

Woofer displacement : 0.20

Required Space 9.0 ft cubed

Minimum box size: 10.82 ft cubed

23 X 24.75 X 33 or 10.87 ft cubed

120sq" port area

30.2Hz tuning Freq

Let me know what you think or if I'm doing anything wrong here.

looks like your getting the hang of things. the port calculator you are useing will work fine)but you are still forgetting to take into account the diplacemnt of your braceing.

what are your absolute maximum dimesnsions to work with.....
