hey man you don't have to justify yourself to me. you think we should give people that can't find a job welfare. I think they are lazy and should look harder. you think killing sadam is the answer, I think we need to invade. you think hitler was a great leader. I think he was a mad man that brought germany to the map and killed hundreds of thousands of United States boys for no good reason, so under those conditions, he was a piss poor leader. I was saying that this thread is geting stupid in the since that we are now defining what excatly a leader is and what it is not when in fact a great leader is that of opinion not fact.

In my opinion, Saddam is definitely bad, he kills his own people, everything you can think of he has done. But, why waste all kinds of money on war, just to get rid of one man? The solution is very simple, with all the intelligence we have you tell me we can't get a sniper to get him. There is a lot of information that is being with held, and it seems a little strange that haven't really found anything worth noting in Iraq. What next, maybe they plant a nuke down there and then wage war. Give me a break, we have the ability to build these bombs of "mass destruction" but no other country is able to even have a crumb of an ingredient to build the bomb.

You complain about 'lazy' people who don't want to work .. so we shouldn't give them anything (which would present a ton of other issues in and of it's self).. But, what about the FACT that our government spends BILLIONS of dollars paing HUGE COMPANIES money ? The gov pays to have them NOT produce certian things.. they pay them when something bad happens to them (corperate farms, for example).. Why is it OK for TAX PAYERS to have their money given to the richest people in the world, but it's not ok to try and help keep the most unfortunate (lets not get into the abuse thing again.. we all agree that there are those out there, the 'spirit' of welfare is NOT for them..) keep from starving to death?

The government gives YOUR and MY money to companies in the form of 'subsidies' all the time.. billions of dollars a year.. the top 15 company payments for any given year most likely EASILLY is MORE than what is spent on ALL the welfare for the unemployed/laidoff/permanenly injured/etc etc..

You want to stop welfare.. think it's so bad.. then don't use the argument that it's only "dirty lazy stupid drug-using dirtbags" that 'get welfare'.. cause the richest people in the country get it to.. it's just not talked about as much..

EVERYONE ON WELFARE ISN'T A LEECH however your estimate of total costs of the welfare system is so far off it's ridiculous.

Also the subsidies you refer to are tax credits.

Not always tax credits, as I understand it.. sometimes cash..

And, even so, WHY do we let businesses get breaks and put tons more profits in their pockets? Perhaps there is a bit of a need for it, but that being the case, there is MUCH MORE of a need to support human life in the US... yet people like 97dakota seem to think welfare is only 'given' to lazy scum.. when in fact our government gives all kinds of money to all kinds of people, and it's a LOT more than what goes to the Americans on the bottom of the financial ladder..

As a point of note, I'll start seeing if I can find some figures about 'domestic welfare' for the poor, and how much money the gov 'gives' to business..

You can find references in almost ANY history book that will illude to, if not state outright, that Hitler was insane (from Syphilus, IIRC) by the time he died.. Evil is an ABSTRACT concept that goes with "good and evil".. but is FAR from a medical/psychological diagnosis.. If you ask me, there has to be something not quite right in your head to order the murder of 6 mil+ people.. Let's say you are right, and EVIL is a 'real' thing.. ok.. he was evil.. so? Has nothing to do with the base of the argument..

So far, all I have found is that for 2003, the Fedral budget for Health and Human Services (the parent division for welfare) is ~ $1.7 billion.. ~$500 mill is for 'below average income'.. I'm presuming that's the 'welfare' aspect.. around 1/4 of the main parts covered by HHS..

Not suprisingly.. I can't find any stats on what the Fedral Government 'gives' to industries, either in tax breaks or buy-outs or supliments, etc..

I'll keep looking..

But, by comparison.. the DEA gets ~$1.6 billion just for 'enforcement', total of ~$18 billion for the entire 'department'.. Couldn't find the actaul funding for prisons, which is where the 1.7 bill that goes to welfare would go if there wasn't any welfare.. *shrug*
