What do you guys reccomend for a new system?

Ok, so here is the deal. I've got a 95 beretta. Right now I've got an old Pioneer DEH-1500 head unit in it, factory speakers and wiring. Well Christmas is coming around, and I was not sure what I wanted, so I am thinking it's time for an upgrade. So typically, our family probably gets each like 300-400 worth of stuff for Christmas. So the budget is say 300-400.

I was thinking of a new head unit that would play mp3 cds. I don't necessarily need that, but would be nice. Also, I think I would like some new speakers. I have a new crutchfield catalog, and was checking out the the Infinity Reference series speakers, but I noticed on ebay the Kappas run in the same area.

The car takes 4x6's in the front stock and 6x9's in the back if I am not mistaken. I have no amp, and no sub. I would kind of like a decently priced setup within the price range. Maybe a new head unit, preferably like Alpine or other good brand. Also, the speakers, I would like something that is a middle of the road speaker. To clarify that, I mean something that is quality, and will sound good, but I like my bass to sound good. I like the bass to hit hard, but be nice, tight and punchy. Not rattling or anything like that. I have heard some of the people driving around with subs and they rattle the liscense plates and what not, that's not what I like. I want it to be nice and tight. But something that will provide decent mids and highs too. Also, I have read that bass blockers are a good idea for the front speakers to keep them from having to handle too low of frequencies. What frequency blockers do you guys reccomend?

I don't know how long I will keep the car, or how long I will use the system, but it may be something I pull and keep afterward. Anyway, thanks everyone, let me know any suggestions. Or if you have any other ideas, let me know those too. Thanks!!!

mp3's arent that important... or shouldn't be. I'd add a sub/amp or a speaker amp to your existing setup, before changing the deck. A single 10" sub would do wonders for your low end... something that 6x9's can't touch. And 4x6's are terrible... always! Haha, do you have room for 5.25" rounds? Or better yet, 6.5" rounds? If you can pop the door skin off, see what you have to play with. I despise 4x6's... always sound so tinny.

if i had 3- 400 for the whole thing, i would fit 6.5" in the front doors and leave the rear 6x9 stock running off the deck you have. get an 4 channel amp for the 6.5's and bridge the rear channels to a 10" sub.

First of all if your looking to do a nice system the head unit is the brain of the operations so you never go cheap on that. I would honestly get a nice hu for christmas and save up and then get alittle here and there while you can.

normally id agree 100% but he said he didnt know if hes keeping the car. while we're on this, if you plan to leave the stereo in the car and sell it, id do what i said. if you are willing to install stuff and take it out when you and the car part ways, id save and do what voa said.

Decks are not always the most important aspect of car audio. I mean you dont want a pyle of shit or nothing, but that deck you have for now should be ok. I would do what analog kid said and do the fronts. Get a cheaper componet set. I got a set of MB Quart dse 5.25's off of ikesound. com. I am not a huge fan of them but they are cheap. You can get those for 100 bucks and then get a decent 4 channel amp. I would run the one channel to your componets, then run your deck of the backs. Then when you have a few extra bucks laying around get an Image Dynamices 10"Q sub. They are very nice sq subs.

About rattles. It is very hard to get a car not to rattle unless you dynomat your car. I mean you dont have to use dynomat. There are many different sound dampeing companys out there. Search is your friend for that. I would recommend Hushmat, as that is what I use and helped out alot. Good luck!
