What cone material has the heighest rate of failure?

The DD kevlars can break...they shatter. Pretty wild shit when they go.
Aluminum seems to be the weakest....infact Metal cones period whether it be Al or Ti. Metal fatigues. Personally, give me paper...really can't beat the weight/performance of a paper cone.
Not quite...

Ti does not really fatigue like AL. Ti actually work hardens on spot so IF you can manage to bend it (trust me its hard) you will not be able to rebend in the same spot period. .In fact, I saw saw an Eclipse Ti returned shot up with 9mm rounds and it still worked! (pic below)

AL will fatigue so its important not to make any weakness in the cone. We put a weakness in by making an extra crease near the edge so the surround sits flush. 100% cosmetic, but this was bad for high excursion and in the end, a few our of subs broke. I saw a few because most (over 95% did not) But thats still a HUGE % so it was dealt with.

Carbon fiber is reserved for our pro audio cones where weight is critical. We may offer the carbon on our SPL series, but more tests are needed. Its about as expensive as Ti.

Paper cones are also great, stiff, light, and durable but common, so we don't really use em on our own stuff, but many people prefer their ruggedness and resistance to denting... just no "bling"

About bullet proof vests, the newest is called dragonskin and its pure Ti

surrounds don't stop bullets too well....

gee, who's going to be helping with your new SPL subs now? or are you going to try to get them to pay for your R&D as well like you tried with me? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

wait, didnt Thilo ban you from posting in public forums? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I watched a show on body armor a while back. Actually, dragon scale is the next evolution, but the step after that one has already been developed as well. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Its a semi-liquid based material that hardenes upon impact. Basically its more comfortable because it bends (again, made of a gel material) but will harden greater than steel when impacted with a bullet. The harder the impact, the harder the molecular structure becomes (crystalizes). The coolest part, it can be reused because the hard material becomes liquid again post-trauma. Its way beyond dragon scale, very top secret still aparently.

Which is why info is spread across the airwaves and internet. Gotta love this government.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Gotta love people who think the stuff they know about is a secret, let alone top secret. You don't even get secret clearance without DOD suits interviewing every important person in your life to find out about you and confirm everything you've told them.

The liquid body armor is just an application of a non-newtonian fluid (a really interesting application). Ever seen someone run across a pool of corn starch and water? It's kinda cool. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-Newtonian_fluid
