What causes speaker corrosion??

Just got a new set of components.. PPI-355cs about 2 months ago... The woofers stopped working.. pulled them out and the wire going into the crossover is corroded. Unplugged it and white/greyish powder came out.. Same with the contact on the speaker as well... Both + and - are corroded. I dont see any water in the door.. Ideas what caused this? They are hooked up to an external amp.

moisture. It obviusly dried if it's white powder.

water will run down the inside of the door skin, and then drain out of the holes in the door. every time your car is out in the rain, water gets in your door and drains out.
