What box for deeper bass ?

Which box will play deeper bass notes a ported box tune in the low 30's or a sealed box with 1 cube ft in volume. I'm talking about deeper bass notes and not what would sound louder. thanks

SDP of TC Sounds fame had this to say:

"In a vehicle, a sealed enclosure will ALWAYS best a vented enclosure for low frequency extension. Always.

Most sealed woofer systems start rolling off at 50Hz or so. With the 12dB rolloff below system resonance, and the transfer function of the vehicle - the average end result is a woofer system that extends down below 10Hz flat.

With a vented system, below vent resonance, rolloff is 24dB/oct. In a vehicle, most vented systems exhibit an exaggeration in response from 30-60Hz (average). This exaggerated response at 30Hz, is usually what is considered 'deep' or 'low'. With the steeper rolloff of the vented system, 10Hz stuff will be virtually in-audible and non-existent.

To go low the 'real' way - a sealed woofer system is the ticket.

If you're concerned with output 30Hz and above - a vented system is the way to go.

Many advantages and disadvantages to each option. But to settle the arguement on which kind of enclosure goes lowest - sealed is the answer.

eh, my experience says vented gets lower. my re8's get much lower than my buddy's sealed kicker cvr 12's.

Sealed boxes get lower...ported boxes tuned low just have more authority at the lower frequencies

so there you have it.......... i guess?? a low tuned ported. tune to like 26 - 29Hz

Depending on the equipment used you can use either one to achieve what you want.

Say what???? No thats not right.......sealed will play lower period. Ported plays down to the tuning frequency loud and then rolls off sharply. A sealed sub drops all the way to 10Hz. A ported wont do that. Ported boxes are loud down to whatever the box is tuned to........if he wants to go 30hz tuning.......frequencies from 30hz-50hz or so will be loud.......below that.....no.
