I'f you're getting updates then obviously not at all. Apps on my phone update several times a day.

Sometimes whitehats will discover a flaw by comparing Windows pre-update to Windows post-update. They inform Microsoft and a fix is implimented quickly, that's usually called a hot-fix. In a way it's actually pretty risky for Microsoft to release a security update, or at least it used to be when people had dial-up and the updates weren't automatic. They'd be pointing an arrow to the security flaw their software engineers discovered and so all of the computers which weren't perfectly up to date would be vulnerable in the meantime.

Still, they could do better. I am running the Pro version for a reason and I shouldn't have to be bothered with updates several times a day sometimes.
