What amp do I need for this sub?

This guy I work with knows I'm in the market for a sub and said he has one laying around but it has no amp. It says DXI PolkAudio on it. It's in good shape but I have no idea what the specs are and was just wondering if this amp would be good enough for it.

I have absolutely no background in this stuff so I'm all ears.

Yikes ! I'd stay away from boss. If you want budget I'd go with a hifonix or crunch or something before a boss.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

Before we can advise you that we need to know what sub that is. Unscrew it from the box and look for any identifying information. if there's a model number or anything you can read let us know , otherwise just take a bunch of pics. that way we might be able to recognize it or find it online.

Boss is widely considered a ****-tier brand around here, but if you're just getting your feet wet it might be sufficient. Once we id the sub we can probably find you something much better for not too much more if you dont mind buying used

That could be it, but it couldn't hurt to see the rest of the sub for comparison.

If you don't already have one, get a multimeter. You could probably find a decent one on Amazon for $20, or you could get an acceptable one for under $10 at harbor freight or radio shack. This will help you determine the impedance of the sub's coil(s), help you ensure you have then wired properly if it's dual voice coil, and help you set the gain on the amp.

If you do go with that boss, or anything with a remote bass knob - don't use it. It changes the gain on the fly and you'll most likely clip the sub to death (you'll learn about that later). Same with the "bass boost" knob. Don't use it for the same reason

If the sub pictured is the one you linked then that amp might be a good fit. The boss supposedly does 413W RMS @ 4. That sub is a 4 ohm svc sub rated (I think it said) 350 or so. The apps probably overrated and with the gain set correctly you should be fine.

Ppi 1000.1 is what I'd recommend, but we need some specs on the sub before we can help. Impedance and power handling to be specific

You want to go with something CHEAP/ Id buy this and get my moneys worth and be able to use this on a set of components later on if you decide to make any changes..Pretty Brute little amp @4 oms mono, and under rated..for front stage . very nice and some of the best SQ amps Alpine ever made and with some power..Ive owned several over the years and die hard amps and wont tax the hell out of your electrical system..8 ga supply is plenty enough

If u just need an amp to bump the Polk woofer just get the cheap $106 bevla amp. It will get the job done and not break the bank

I'm not saying I was gonna buy it lol. Just took a look at your link and that seems like the better decision. Now I'm gonna need a wiring kit for this right? Any suggestions? Preferably amazon.
