weird sub noise

some one explain to me why my friends new sub is making a scraping/poping sound when wired in series but NOT in parallel? its making the noise even unpowered. as soon as we wire a - to a + and push on the cone, just a little, you can hear it. we didnt try to power it in parallel yet.

any idea what the heck is going on??

well thanks for all the help lol but i found it. one of the terminals on the sub had a loose crimp.
