weird sound

I recently rewired my sub when i installed components and an amp for them. i ran 4 gauge to a fuse distribution block then down to 8 gauge to the amps. they're grounded fine and tuned properly. But when ever i turn my stereo on or off, switch from radio to cd to ipod, or change some of my headunit settings, my sub will give off a fairly loud single thump. I have no idea whats making it do this. it never did this untill i installed this secondary amp for my speakers. has anyone heard or something like this before? any help would be greatly apreciated.

this is sometimes common. i have heard this is several setups. allthough i've never heard it when changing sources on a radio. i have heard it when a system is tured on or off. it's just your amp sending a signal to the subs when it turns on or off. nothing damaging. it just means that your amp potentially has a loud turn on/off.

hmmm. I recently sent my amp in for service and when i got it back it started doing this. It never had before. I supose the new one now has a loud turn off then? i dont see why it would do that unless somethings messed up. Could this potentialy damage my sub or is it fine? it does it when i change radio station or ajust my settings. drives me nuts.

Check your ground, I'm not sure if this is the same problem or not. But when I would turn my radio off manually, then manually turn it back on it would make a thump. When you have your radio on do your subs have a slight humming sound like a small vibration, do your subs sound hollow at times? If so, it's definitely your ground.

Check all of your wiring again, and then once more so you can rule that out as the problem first or potentially find the problem. I've heard of the thumping sound when turning the radio on and off like Illbemeubu, so this could be a related problem.

if you got the amp back from repair and it started doing that, then send it back to em and tell em what's goin on. like i said, i've never heard of that happening when settings are adjusted or stations or sources are switched. only when i turned the radio on.

another important thing i neglected to mention is that im getting alot of engine noise in my tweeters now. but that couldnt be related because with the engine off it still does the thump. I will check my ground thanks for the pointer, otherwise i'm calling in and having a good chat. thanks guys

Take your rcas that are going to your amp for your speakers and use it on your amp for your sub and see if it doesn't do it anymore. That's what I did and it stopped. It's something with the head unit's rca jacks I believe

Ground loop somewhere, as evidenced by your tweets. Check the grounds, see if it clears up. If it clears up the tweet noise, but not the thumps, I'd e-mail the repair company and tell them, see what they have to say.
