My friend has a '94 Ranger with a four cylinder and stick shift. The other day while driving his truck just turned off and turned back on while driving. And since then it's ran kind of off. His truck was in gear while he was driving. Didn't stutter before or after. Only gets rough when trying to start.

there's a module on those models that controls the distributor. it's gray, and mounted under the distributor and has a plug that goes to the distributor. sound's like that's the problem. or a bad distributor cap. if you change the distributor cap, make sure to change the rotor button also.

So it actually shut off while you were driving. Doing whatever speed and wham it shut off then turned right back on.
