yea i was talking to my dad about helpin me build a box and install an amp rack, and he sais that im "over doing it".

Im like "okay... its only gonna be 2 amps amp rack, and a sub w/box." the box btw is around 3cubes

then he said ,"its going to weigh too much, and your car will drag. the suspension also wasnt made for that kind of weight in the rear. Its not a giant truck you know"

my dads been a benz technician for a good 20 years so he knows his stuff about the model i have. Just gettin a second opinion from you knowledgable people here in CA.com.

is what my father saying trui? and is what im doing overdoing it???

My car has an extra ~300lbs when I actually have an install...Car doesnt drive too much differently..

Gas milage suffers though

an average pretty install will come to.... what? 200lbs? 300lbs?

My truck was hauling around a 190 lb crx stly box, add on 80 lbs for woofers. 45 lbs for two amplifiers. guesstimate about 20 lbs of wire.

Yes folks, that would be 335 lbs.

How much do two passangers weigh? Hmm....

Wow Thats All.....my Subs Alone Without The Box Is An Easy 300lbs..my Amp Rack Is Another 250lbs(its Made From Mdf,metal And Fiberglass..thats How I Got The Amps 2 Sit At An Angle)..and On The Otherside Of My Box I Have 3 Amps Doing My Highs End..and No They Are Not Small.......i Mean I Have The Ppi 21400 Doing My Midbass....and I Have A Ppi26oo Doing My Midrange And I Have Anoter Ppi26oo Doing My Tweets......my Box Is All 1inch Wood....and The Box With No Subs Is Anoth 200lbs Or So...not To Mention 5batts Under The Truck Where The Spear Tire Use 2 Be...thats Another 300lbs...so My Truck Is Loaded With About 1100lbs Of Equipment..i Dont Have Any Problems Just Bad Gas Milage.

its the same as having two passangers. now, when you DO have a car load of people it'll be that much worse. but you shouldn;t be racing then anyhow.

When I had my large sub setup (4 12" subs @ ~35lbs each, + ~75lb box) my rear end sat noticeably lower. Ride was just a smidgen rougher...not really too noticeable. Gas mileage wasn't the greatest. However, I also have a heavy weight friend (350+lbs), and one time he road in the back seat......every bump I hit would rub the rear tires on the inner fenders. So, just be catious of who rides in back after the subs are installed.

lol back in 91-92 my escort literally had to have air helper springs just to keep the tires off the wheel well lol. 4 big oldschool ppi amps 2 cross overs and 4 subs...those were the days

hehe i cant race with my car...it may have 128hp but it duz 0-60 in like a half a minute
