Hi im sure this topic has been posted a million times, but anyways,

I have an SPL 1000 watt sub (2x12 500 watt)

Do i need a bridgable 500 watt amp for this ? or could i power this with a 500 watt bridgeable 250 amp ? if not why not ??

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SPL-224-12-NEON-BANDPASS-SYSTEM-BOX-SUBWOOFER-1000-W_W0QQitemZ5835836459QQcategoryZ18805QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

thats a link to the sub can anyone give me any suggestions of what would be a good

amp to go along with this ?

and would my car battery beable to power these or would i need something in addition to this ?

thanks very much to all that reply.

1st off, it looks like that "1000w" power handling is MAX power, not RMS power. You need to find out the RMS power handling of your subwoofers before you can select an amplifier.

so either way if i get a 1000 watt amp its gonna do the job yeah ??anything less will be pritty much useless ??
Uh.....no.....if you get a 1000w RMS amp, and try to send 1000w RMS to those subwoofers, you'll end up frying them.....making the subwoofers totally useless. PEAK POWER RATINGS ARE USELESS. ONLY go by RMS power ratings.

Find out the RMS power handling of your subwoofers before you purchase an amplifier.

not sure on the rms i havent got the sub yet and the description on ebay doesnt say, im trying a search on google at the moment but im not finding it anywhere, anyone have a rought idea of the rms this sub might have ?

I did have a Vibe FLi 1000 watt sub with built in amp but it was stolen! so i havent had to go through buying the sub and amp seperatly thats why im a tad clueless here haha.

max watt is 1000 so is that gonna be around 500 rms per speaker or 250 per speaker ? im just bloody confused ive heard of people with 800 watt subs using 500 watt amps n so on what if the rms wasnt a perfect match ? if its no much rms from the amp it will fry right and if its not enough im guessing it wont work ?

thats the spec of the sub, it doesnt mention rms thats why im so confused on what amp to buy for this.

Dual 12" high power 4 ohm subwoofer

*

*

*

*

max watt is 1000 so is that gonna be around 500 rms per speaker or 250 per speaker ?
No way to tell. The RMS could be 100w for all we know. Max power means NOTHING.

im just bloody confused ive heard of people with 800 watt subs using 500 watt amps n so on what if the rms wasnt a perfect match ? if its no much rms from the amp it will fry right and if its not enough im guessing it wont work ?

You just run the risk of overpowering your subwoofers, and subsequently damaging them without know the RMS. The RMS and amplifier power don't have to match, you are correct there. But without a starting point, there is no way of knowing whether you will be severely overpowering the subwoofers.

**** i wish i had knew about this before buying the thing!

i havent recieved it yet ill have to hop i get some sort of manual and it mentions the rms in there.

pritty insane they don't even mention the rms on the!

incase i dont ever find out the rms is there any amps u could suggest that ur reckon might be ok ?
