Was wondering....

Ok, I am new here, but am not new to car audio.

But I was wondering what the thought's from those in the know, ( the people here), was of what I plan to do.

I have a 2004 chevy colorado, ext. cab. I am running 4 - 10" volfenhag dvc comp. subs, in a custom box, (my design), portred to 42 hrtz.

My plan is to add 4 more 10" subs, 4 mid's, and 2 more tweeters to this. I am going to be running 5000 watts power, with a batt cap (30 frd).

Curently, I hit in the 95 dbl range with the 4 subs in place, want to go up a little.

Also, I am only running 1250 watts of power atm.

I run a pioneer AVIC-N1 head unit, sony amps, and a standard 1 frd cap.

Any thoughts??

you are running 4 subs and only hitting 95dbl? I think you should spend the money and up up to 2 15"s if you are going to put that kind of money into a system! What does your box design look like?

Atm, I am not going for SPL, but quality. It is clear and clean atm, I only have room for a 11" wide box behind the seat. as such, I am building a box that will alow me to install 8 10 sebs, 4 mids and the tweets, and still maintain both dbl, and clearity. I should hit between 136 and 142 db in cab, when I am done and it will be clear.

~90 db? wow thats terrible.

i would suggest getting some better subs man... is this the new TL mic? i think my single 10 sounds fantastic and im getting at LEAST 110+ for sure with 1.2 cuft @ 37hz and about 800w... and it sounds really clear (with a well recorded song)...

im sure there are better SQ subs with much higher output for your application... namely the adire shiva? they are supposedly incredible SQ subs with very good output. same with the RE SE (mine) and the SX and the seXXX...

i would look into higher quality subs and stick with 4x10" and just add 2 mids\highs\ and an amp ... (kickpods?) mabye make a new box with a lower tuning~ or go sealed. thats where the best SQ lies - or so im told. but you will have to give the subs more power so they can reach their Xmax.

but from what ive heard vohlfhang (or whatever) subs are ok, but not nearly the best.

//edit

hell. if you want SQ that bad, i would definatly recommend 4~8 adire koda 8" drivers instead. port them mid 30~40's and give them ~100w each. and you will bump quite nice. maybe .4 cubes each.. or a little bigger if you know what you are doing. then get 2 6" mids and 2 tweets.

i think you would be quite happy. and you wouldnt need to get a bizillion watts of power.

would you mind taking some pictures for us?

With the responce i have received here, I am designing a new box for the speakers, as soon as I have it done, I will post it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/offwall.gif.29a91b9b265d47af4b8e33fc5b558d18.gif

well, I did some tuning, put the db meter in truck, hit 136.8 and lost a sub, //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif as well as slpit my box. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif . You can laugh now, as I will rebuild a new box, and will take a pic today and post tonight. box will be unfinished, but it will work. also have to use 2 sony subs to keep things even on the amps.

The box is/was .625 MDF( i forgot to reinforce it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nono.gif.eca61d170185779e0921b0faa9704973.gif )

The new box, will take me about 2 weeks to redesign and build it.

I am moving to a little higher end seb from volfenhag. ( I like the sound of them, and it stays with in my buddget). I am going to 3 10's and 4 4x6's in the back, and 2 tweets in the front( still using the stock speakers)

The sub spec's are:

FREE AIR RESONANCE: 27 Hz

TOTAL SPEAKER Q: 0.4448

ELECTRICAL Q: 0.4745

MECHANICAL Q: 7.1149

VAS: 36L

EFFECIENCY(1W/1M): 87dB

SD(PISTON SURFACE AREA): 0.0346m

RE(DC RESISTANCE): 3.2 Ohm

NOMINAL IMPEDANCE: DUAL 4 Ohm

MOUNTING DEPTH: 152mm

MOUNTING HOLE DIAMETER: 235mm

RECOMMENDED ENCLOSURES:

SEALED: VOLUME=37L 411mm x 316mm x 285mm

PORTED: 28L 404mm x 288mm X 241mm

PORT: 100mm x 180mm

( a link to a nice sounding set of 4x6 i bought for a friend)

These are the 4 x 6's I will be using, being pushed by 70 watts rms, thay give nice clean sound, thats also very loud.

I will post a simple drawing of the box tonight, till then ......... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

Seriously, the Adire Kodas or Shiva are cheap, and they would sound much better....not only within a smaller airspace, but with less power. Those subs seem to be pretty inefficient if you are needing that much power. I doubt you are only hitting 95dB with 4 10"s.
