Well, my uncle works for a cell phone company and they were cleaning out a storage area so ALOT of older test equipment was going in the dumpster tomorrow. I just happened to drop by his house Saturday and he told me about em. Well, awhile back I told him I was looking for an O-Scope if he came across a used one...he said there may be an old one there in the storage.

So, today we went to the storage place and started digging. There were 5-6 older cell tower testing units and I just happened to find an o-scope! Looked like it was in good shape but I didn't test it.

I asked him again, "are you sure this is getting thrown away?" He said yes, its all going in the dumpster out back as soon as we get to it! So, that sucker went in my truck!

I started looking it up a few mins ago to get some info one it. Its a Motorola R-2001D. After alil searching, I found a place or 2 that said it sold new for $15K!!!

I nearly shvt myself!

If this is true...OMG!

This sucker is going up for sale and I'm giving him half cause I'm cool like that :)

So, please help me find some more info in this testing unit!!!!!

MOTOROLA R-2001D

thanks

IIRC that is not just an O-Scope but it has a whole RF testing analyzer, spectrum analyzer, and tones built right into it.

I use a 2600 at work that is getting a bit old... But, they are very nice units...

A picture would help, old test equipment is hard to find information on.

Yes, I realize it does ALOT. I just put O-scope in the title because that is most likely the only thing 90% of the members here would pick up on.

This is as close to the unit as I can find a pic of online.

I will test it and get pics tomorrow at the shop.

Oh, do you know of any place I may be able to sell this?

I have a cheapy Heath Kit that does all I really need for setting gains (looking for clipping)...I just don't need this higher end Motorola.

If I can sell it for a decent price, half is going to my uncle and the rest is going toward an S10 for me to compete in SPL with. My uncle doesn't even know it yet, so I would love to surprise him with a free chunk of $ the next time I visit.

You aren't going to sell it for much if it isn't certified calibrated.

You should be able to send it to Motorola (IIRC General Dynamics handles the Service Monitors now), but it is going to be expensive.

Also, it is an older model that is a bit obsolete unless you are using it for O-Scope, and basic RF functions. You might get the best response asking about it on HAM radio forums or something of the like.

Weird that they would throw it out if it still worked, but some larger companies do that with equipment.Good luck with it.
2 of my O-Scopes came from GE. They sat in storage for 8 years until they decided to sell them.

Companies invest thousands of dollars in a piece of test equipment, then since they would take such a loss after they are obsolete they just set them in a back room hoping maybe they will be used again.

That is why it sometimes is easy to get test equipment from factories, R&D Centers, and the like.

There is also a large market for refurbished test equipment. If I recall correctly my grandfather purchased one of these models for $1500 about 10 years ago. So, I really don't know what they are worth today. Sometimes test equipment goes up, sometimes down, sometimes it stays the same.

Ok got alil more info on the Analyzer.

The face cover says R2001D, but the back sticker says R2038D/HS.

Can't find any info on that # though.

Also, I think I know why it was getting thrown out. I plugged it up and it didn't come on. So I checked the fuses and the 3A in the back was blown. I replaced that w/ a 2A and it now comes on and all the controls seem to work. I don't have any test leads but the readout and trace are strong.

So, the new # to check into is R2038D/HS.

I'll get some pics up in alil bit!
