w7 problems

ok... so i have a 12w7 and ive had ti for about 2 years with a jbl bp1200.1 amp. the problems was the sub was 3 ohms and the amp is one ohm stable. i recentally switched ti to a proted box from a sealed box using the jl audio specs. i didnt liek this transition so i switched back to sealed and now when i play it at any volumes it distorts and sounds like poop. waht do u think i did and how do i fix it if i can??

Is it back in the SAME sealed box? Are you sure it is wired the same aswell?

Check amp settings. Make sure subsonic is turned off etc if you are in the sealed enclosure. Make sure also that the gains are set properly--use a voltmeter to check input sensitivity.

umm the sub distorts at all volumes.. even if the amp is all the way down. what if i mixed up teh + and -?? waht would that do?? i really dont want this to b screwed up...

change the polarity back and listen to it. if it sounds better leave it that way.

Nothing bad would happen.....and definitely not what you are describing. For all intents and purposes it would still sound "normal"

You didn't "bridge" the amp did you?

Oh crap, is it really really quiet?? When I had my H2 I hooked it up parallel. On one of the voice coils I screwed up on accident by switching the + and -. It did what you are describing right now.

yeah.. it is quiet.. what do i do if one of the voice coils is messed up??! i did not bridge the amp... and i could check if any of the wires are toughing... maby split them apart more...

You can't do the same thing that he is doing, because you have an SVC woofer. You really can't hook the 12w7 up in a way that would cause that amplifier to clip all the time.

Try the 12w7 on someone else's amp, and try different woofers on that amp. That should help you figure out what the problem is. You may even want to try hooking both up in someone else's car, or trying a different source.

i hooked my amp up to a different woofer and it was straight.... the problem with the w7 and that amp is it always clipped. i am selling it to my fiend and getting 3 23w3s, but i cant sell it if its broken. i think it may be the wire connection within the box, but i will try hookign it up to another amp and fixing the wires. does anyone else know what else might eb the problem?? do u htink i permanitly danaged the sub???

You may have messed the coil up. You should get a multimeter and measure the DCR of the W7 coils. If it still operates, you may have just blown one of the two coils.

i think i found th eproblem.. when i looked into the w7 fromt he side, i noticed the paper that cnnects the cone to the spider is damaged. does anyoen know how to fix or replace tis and an approx. price on this?? can i do it myself??
