It will run 3ohms fine. You will be somewhere between the 600w4ohm and 1000w2ohm. I'd guesstimate 700-800w at 3ohms.

If your gain is set right now just leave it alone.

You have no idea what to set it to. Just leave it. 100 watts will make no difference at all. It's a risk

I get your point. Hook it up and see how it sounds. You wont get full power from.the amplifier which you already know. If it needs a little more turn the gain up slightly and then check everything. Its hard to say what the amp will do at 3ohms. If you have the tools then clamp it and see what it will do clean and set it then. If not just use common sense and set it slowly. For years we all did it by ear dont be scared

Are you running the sub ported or sealed. I gave mine 700-800 with a vfl2680, when it was sealed, the sub was barley moving. I changed amps to a hd1200/1 and it lit up. I have the sub in a ported ho box now and was thinking of testing it out with the vfl again.

These w7 are underrated and are power hogs. Giving it 1k watts barely gets it going

Edit: if your buying now, hope you get for a great price. If not, try another sub. The 12w7 is a ***** to drive. Great sub though....

W7's aren't underrated at all. They take exactly what they say they take. Same with the HD amps, they put out exactly what they say they put out. I don't trust American Bass so jmho but you probably weren't getting anywhere close to 7-800watts because I've seen HD750/1's and even 500/1's push a W7 just fine.

JL W7 will take more then rated. JL just won't warranty them, seen a W7 on 1500 daily for a year plus.

Most I've seen on one was a 12W7 on 1200rms and it bottomed out if you pushed it too far... in the HO box.
