Well....gotta figure, how many scammers on ebay make 50 good sales of small items, just to scam on one single large item. Time consuming.....but if it's "what you do for a living", small sacrifices are worth the reward.
Very true.

Good responces so far...keep them comming.

I really think that 500-1k is perfect. Make so that people can't just use the board to sell. Or you can take eugenics for an example...3k posts in 3 months...I think that 100-200 is too low.
And then everyone will ***** that they have to be a post ***** in order to sell here. For every Eugenics, there is an established, respectable member with less than 500 posts. I can think of a few members off hand that I know from different forums who are extremely respect- and trust-worthy, yet have less than 500 posts.

maybe have classified moderators that are allowed to interact with the sales between the people and actually have the ability to ban trolls, use a reference system like heatware.com to reference traders instead of posting in a forum which half the people wont do good or bad, and make it policy that if you dont have references you should ship first if the other person is well established to build your credentials (I started that way on hardforum many years ago)

agreed post count means nothing.

True, do you have any ideas? I honestly cant think of any more. I have decided not to buy/sell on here until I feel safe. I hate having to keep all the shit I have in my room too though. After my amp fiasco, I dont buy/sell on egay either.

ya thats a really good idea. I like that idea

Do something like SIN has (had?), with their trader rating.
Though that won't stop first time scammers.
But anyone who deals with a 1st time seller/buyer should be more careful naturally.

The main thing is for people to watch their own *****.

I mean for the most part this forum is full of people save their Quarters to be able to buy $200-$500 pieces of equipment, they get all wrapped up in the excitement of getting something new, and before You know, they have no equip. and no money.

I only sell on here to people / members that I know, have seen around, or have decent ref's from more then 2-3 people. I've turned away a few buyers before, just to avoid the shit.

I still ebay, but only as a last resort.

Really, the "best" thing to do would be to write-up a FAQ & Knowledge thread and sticky it in the F/S section. How to cover your *** in a deal (shipping/having an item shipped C.O.D [still don't understand why this isn't readily used....by far the safest thing you could do for yourself]), how to go about rectifying a situation in which you have been scammed, who to contact, what info to get from the seller prior to the transaction, etc etc. Beyond that, there's not much else you can do.

It'll never be "safe". Heck, look at how easy it is to get ripped off on egay and/or paypal.....and that is what these places do for a living. They are *supposed* to know how to operate a safe trading enviornment......which they obviously haven't accomplished after 6+ years of operation.

In the end, as Nick said, it really comes down to buyer beware, and covering your own ***.

I have one made up if you want to check it out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Just wondering everyone elses thoughts...
I vote to either limit F/S threads to established members, or close them all together. Too many scams being pulled here latly.
In all honesty, it is the consumers resposibility to cover their ***. The classifieds are good, but people need training on how to be cautious. Like knowing if anyone mentions Western Union then just run away. At Anandtech they get a shitload of scammers, but a lot more sales go on there so the % may be the same, but they have the best guidelines and rules setup of any florum classified I have ever seen.

If they limited the classifieds, then they would be obstructing enterprise. However, some mechanism needs to be in place to lessen the scammers on here. The feedback system works well. I think a 500 post count is a good number.
