voltage up and down??

today my voltmeter was reading 15 volts!

i have stock electrial system, but i did add a longer battery post for my amp. but most of the time when it is cold out, and i dont let it warm up for a little bit, it some times drops from 14.4v down to 12 when i stop at a light, then recharges again to 14.4 when i go, then somtimes moves and stays at 14.8-14.9 and rarely hits 15v..

whats the problem?? is it the alternator?

Cold does affect it. On a single digit temp start up im at about 14.8 and when my car is fully warm it hovers around 14.6-14.7

that doesnt sound right it should never drop to 12v unless your car stalls, you might have a voltage regulator problem. 15v is nothing to worry about if it gets over 16v though i would be careful might start blowing headlights and such...
