Well I have had hell with my car in the past, its a '73 duster. I dont think it had anything to do with my system. My car would just always die and wouldnt hold a charge, even when I didnt even have my system on. So I took it to an electrical guy and he said it was the voltage regulator, along with some old crappy wires. I guess Im just asking if this will solve my problem for good? What exacally does a voltage regulator do?

.... You have no voltage you have no power you have no boom boom.

A voltage regulator does exactly what it says, regulates the voltage coming out of the alternator.
As lilmaniac2 said its not that your battery wont hold a charge it is that your alt wont charge it. if you havent already fried your bat your luck though. It sounds like the voltage reg is regulating too low most of the time they just stop working completely and they way over charge the bat and fri it and some times the cars CPU and other things.

Ok guess it wasn't charging my batt. It would survive on a jump for a little while. Everytime I would pull my headlights on, the car would die
