I have an Irragi 180 AMP, I think the Dominator, well the best one. 125 at idle. Problem is, my alt wont kcik on until about 1200 RPM. MY car idles at about 900-1000. My car lights go way dim when i stop, and my blower moter when i ahve the heat on slows down noticeably. Everything slows down because it runs off the battery then at idle and the alt only puts out a trickle. Well, I ahve a 1998 Olds Cutlass, same as Malibu, and i need to raise the idle. any help?

not familiar with the car, but its not hard to change the idle of an engine... in my rex it was a screw that pushed the throttle further down... in spl comp vehicles ppl use coins to hold the throttle down.... only probly is if you make your car idle at 1200 your gonna have some major problems at redlights stopping, wasting gas and when u shift into gear in sure it wouldnt be good on your transmission

Well, I'd hope not but I know a friend that has an excessive amperage alt and does the same thing. The alt works, but I just need to raise the idle. I think a smaller pulley is the trick, however that would losen the belt. I acnt get a smaller belt for it and if I leave it loser, that could damage my engine.

as long as you dont change the pully diameter by a couple of inches you *should* be ok.

There is a spring loaded tensioner on there to keep the belt tight. If you change the size of the pully, the tensioner should take up any slack.

A couple inches and you will be in trouble. .25-.5 MAX remember to try and keep the 3 to 1 ratio going.

that is true there is a tensioner, i just bought a new one a few months ago so it's good and tight. Also changed one of the idler pulleys, theres only one more. I jsut want to make sure that the water pump still turns in sync.

Someone once told me to take a spring and hook it to my throtle under the hood and pull it a bit, bad idea I would assume?
