voltage question

One Million Eight hundred thousand Watts sounds like a really loud system.

Do you mean 18K (18000 Watts), or 1.8K (1800 Watts), or does 1800K refer to a model of Amp, I googled it but didnt see any.

With 2 Batteries I'm assuming 1800 is what you mean. 180 Alternator sounds fine for that, but it's gonna be working.

Your RMS works out to be about 140 amps at full 1800 (based on 13 volt average), but in reality unless your blasting at full RMS all the time it is probably half that or even less.., so figure just chillin with the boys at speaking volume 40 to 60 amps, a third of what your alternator can handle, and with your 2 batts your system will be drawing from them, and your alternator just filling in the gaps with a light charge.

Even at full RMS your Alternator can handle this load, provided that you used heavy gauge wiring in your batt setup.

Also you might think of isolating your starting battery from the other one and using the aux batt. for your system only.

The problem with using both is that they are different types and draw and charge at different rates, Your alternator will sense a need to charge and will over charge one while charging the other. That will kill your batt. and make a mess.

If you want two in parallel use exactly the same kind, if they are different, you need a high amp battery isolator. The isolator goes between the batts and your alternator. The other advantage is that you can let your one bat go down a bit if playing with the engine off, and your starting batt. will still be full.

You can also bridge them for extended car off use, but then you might need a jomp.

If you meant 18000 watts, then no it's not enough.

Disclaimer, I'm no expert, I'm in here to learn.

Ditch the Optimas-

For 1.8mill watts just for burps... the minimum would be 360 XSD3100s...

You better be drivin an RV because i think u need to focus more on the efficiency of the box design rather than the power..

Oh and i almost forgot, contact Rob at DC Power...

See if he has a quadringenti-alt bracket.

For those that do not know what that means, that's an alt bracket designed to hold 400 alternators.

You might wanna put a turbo on that engine to support the load... actually u might want to put about 500 turbos on it, lol

lmfao!! nice...

lol i ment 1.8k or 1800 which ever u would prefer

but i drive 3 hours or so aday usually at full tilt

edit and no im not one of the assholes at red lights blasting music... i drive on mainly country rodes

lol but f'real tho...i had a 1600 amp with the big 2, stock battery, and a kinetik 1200 and my voltage never dropped below 13.2. i think you should be fine with a kinetik 1400 ish or something along the lines of that.
