voltage drops to 9 volts at full tilt

Looking To Upgrade.....
i think its time for some extra power.

so i put the box in tonight and took a quick test drive, set the gains and i happen to glance at the cap. all it says is LOW. i was like O RLY so i hooked the DMM up to it and drove at 70 and played the typical "Late Night Tip" and sure enough 9.2 volts at full tilt. guess you cant run 2 memphis amps at 1 ohm. may have to change it up to 2 ohm on 1 amp till i save money for a HO alternator.

Any one have any suggestions?

about how much is it to have an alternator rebuilt with better internals and higher regulator

and after that get a kinetic 2400 up front and a 800 in the back

would need to know how much power you have to help you. while on a 3000 watt system that may be fine on a 10000 watt system it wouldn't be enough......a bigger alt would also help and you wouldn't necessarily need to bump up your voltage...unless you are trying to get every tenth of a db on a meter....

what are you pushing?

it could also be that your battery in general is failing and the cap isn't helping the situation.

as they said some bigger batteries will hold you. there's about 3,500w being pushed from my system before i got my ho alt. 1 kinetik2400 and a half dead group 51 size battery upfront and at full tilt it trickles down to the low 11's before i cut it off. even so it takes the system a while for it to get to that point.

another thing is if your letting your system drop down to 9v then you could be causing damage to your amps and your cars electrical system.

try upgrading your front battery to the largest deep cycle battery you can fit in the stock battery location. Kinetik, Odyssey/Stinger, NorthStar, just a few brands to look into. Also make sure you have the big 3 upgrades done, if the new battery and upgrades don't help enough then look into adding another deep cycle battery to the rear. Unless you have a ton of money to dump into this at once your best bet is to upgrade the front batt before buying one for the rear.
