Voltage Dropping alot

with a volt meter on the amp pos and neg it droped to 8.9 volts on a hz sweep. i know my amp it rated at 1000 watts @ 14.4vdc at 2 or 4 ohms. so when the bass drops low with the volume at full tilt my sub is not getting 1000 watts. i have read that this is very bad for your car and audio elctrical system. i have a 120 amp alt, big three, reg heavy duty car battery (not yellow top). my amp may be another problem being that its a class a/b 1000 watt rms amp (old soundstream rubicon 1002). im not sure but i think its ******* up aleast 100 amperes to beable to do its rated watts. long story short when i first got into car audio a few years ago i bought a power wire for my amp at home depot (cheap bastard). 4 gauge wire that was a b1tch to install because the threaded wire was about 10 total thick copper strands. other 4 gauge power wires i have seen are thicker and the strands of copper are fine and theres alot more. i know fine stranded is better because it more flexable. heres my question can my 4 gauge home depot wire be part of my voltage drop issue? sorry for rambling

Or getting to be dead.
i slow charge the battery once a week or so to ensure its not dead . usally the battery is around 70% to 80% before a charge. im going to check the power wire with my volt meter if i could only find the **** thing. on my amp there are two lights that light up when the amp is clipping the signal. normally i have a 15" 1000 watts rms but i swiched it with a 12" 700 watts rms thinking no clipping with no luck around the some volume as the 15". does voltage drop cause a amp to clip?

amp probably wants 100 - 140amps...
now, if the amp is only getting 8.9 volts, rather than 14.4 chances are its only doing like 600watts...

thats what i was kinda saying on my first post. 600 watts is not going to work.

I have never seen the wire from home depot....
I would imagine it is probably pretty stiff, and not the greatest to run through a car...

but than again... never crossed my mind to go check home depot....

what was the amp rating for it?
i have no idea what the amp rating on home depot wire is.

if your asking the amp the manual says 80 amp fuse at the amplifier and 100 amp fuse at the battery

i have 80 amp fuse at the battery?
