very dissapointed in new alpine type r shallow mounts... is something wrong?

Check the wiring on the subs, they could be wired wrong. Check ohms and phase.

gain is a big one. could be the box is to small or the fact their shallow mounts. i havent heard a set of shallows i like to this day

agreed, i think the shallow mounts sound terrible in comparison to regular subs
