Very basic - Aftermarket stereo integration, and Android Auto

Hello all. First time poster. I'm planning to buy a new or slightly used Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra pickup. I'm interested in the Android Auto integration. I'm aware that functionality will show up with an update in a few months for the 2016 models only. So, I would have to get a 2016 for the stock radio to support it. Any thoughts on how long I should expect the stock stereo to stay compatible with the latest and greatest Android phones? I have no idea. I'm interested in aftermarket options as well. The Kenwood Excelon DDX9902S (just an example I found) seems like it would do the job. If I went this route, I could get a better deal on a 2105 truck. I'm a little concerned about how all the integrated Car functions will work. I believe the backup camera will work, and I believe the steering wheel controls will work. What I found states 'GM vehicles: you'll keep your steering wheel audio controls, your factory amp, safety warning chimes, and OnStar' So, does everything that would normally be displayed on the screen work? Am I giving up any functionality by going with an aftermarket unit such as the Kenwood Excelon DDX9902S? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Only one way to know... buy the kenwood, install it and see. Doesn't work, take kenwood out and return it.
Alot of work for nothing is it dont work. There are different adaptors to keep everything, but the backup cam. I could be wrong on the camera.

Agreed. It might actually determine what car I buy. From the details here: Kenwood Excelon DDX9902S DVD receiver at Crutchfield.com it seems the camera should work. This is just a head unit I found using the Crutchfield search tools. I'm sure there could be something better. I realize most of the people on here are doing far more with their car audio than I'm currently planning. The truck itself is going to wipe my budget at the moment.

I can't just go buy it on a credit card. I don't have the car yet. This is to help me make a decision on the car. I was hoping I might find some others who had already tried it out. As for the Android Auto, I realize the Auto app is what is updated, but there is obviously a component within the head unit. I didn't know if there might be some information out there related to interoperability with future phones. I will dig around some more and see what I can find. I was hoping someone here had already worked through some of these issues.
