Vented Box question

Ok i have a question about vents. I was reading somewhere that say if you tune a vented enclosure to 45 hz and the sub starts to play notes as low as 25 hz that you can blow the driver becuase you lose cone control below the 45 hz is this true or am i worried about building a vented box for no reason?

More or less true. Below tuning the box/port does "lose control" of the cone. Depending on the woofer and power it won't be catastrophic, but your output drops off dramatically below tuning so playing 2 octaves down is a waste anyway. This is why they make subsonic filters.
