VC smell- sub a total loss?

today i believe i smelled my voice coil burning when i was listening to some music. The sub still works fine but that aroma still lingers out from it(i took it out and played it free air to make sure it was the sub and it was =( )

I recently got an AQ HD315 and i really don't want to do any thing to cause harm to it. Just wondering if the audiopipe is in need of a recone if at all possible. Ilalso have to tune my amp, read some stickies on how to do it.. i must fail and understanding cause I'm still lost >

One more question sry! on my sony head-unit both of the RCA connecters are black and neither tell me which is L or R and i hope i don't have them connected wrong. One of the Rca's have a piece of masking tap on it not sure if the person who owned it before me put it there so they no which is L or R.

If its new, it's probably just glue burning off. If your sub still works fine, play on.

never seen a forum boner hard enough to make people buy product with no idea of what it is

its an audioque, and if it still plays, its fine.

make sure bass boost and loudness is off and bass on hu is at 0 for starters....

turn the radio to where you normally play it, with the gain all the way down, then slowly turn it up until it doesnt sound the same, then dial back just a little....

smelling a VC doesnt mean its shot, and yes the smell can linger... i smelt my mysnc VC's liek everyday for a year.. but when you do smell them TURN IT DOWN cause they will come unwound.. and then your shit out of luck. also repeated abuse this will happen eventually also

Yea I turned the radio off as soon as i smelled it. Since the audiopipe is fine I'm just gonna sell it its about a month or two old=P. i read that to set the subsonic your suppose to take the Hz your box is tuned at then multiply it by 3/4.. that true?

As the others have said you should be good to go. My 3 week old SDC2.5 has a faint smell after extended play. You'll know you have a problem when smoke is coming out of the port.

i love the smell of VC's burning. Kinda hard to tell though if it's in a sealed box. Just make sure you set your gain properly and you should be fine
