Using External Amp Fuses ?

Hi guys

I was wondering, if youre usuing a huge mono amp and it calls for external fuses, is there any formula to figure out the correct total size in fuses to use with regards to the power ratings of the amp? I dont have the manual or spec sheet.

I have an external block which can hold like 4 of the small round glass type fuses

like these:

rather than the blade fuses.

Thanks

Is this because the amp doesn't have internal fuses or it is just recommending to also fuse the incoming power wire on top of its internal fuses?

He's not asking about fusing the power cable, he's talking about fusing the amplifier.

i know that, but if he has 2 1/0 inputs, that's gonna be MORE fusing. I'm hoping to get some idea of the input current Zenon was allowing for also.

fusing 4 ga at 250A wouldn't be the best idea either:)

Does the amp have internal protection for current draw already? oh wait, no manual.

But if he is using two 2200 watt amps, the glass fuses arent going to cut it. I think that is the point he was trying to make. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You're making "if" assumptions. Let's just stick to what he was asking. It's never a bad idea to externally fuse an amp if it doesn't have built in fusing, particularly if he's already running a distribution block. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Stop with the freaking semantics. Nobody said dont fuse. His fuses arent going to work.

/thread.

sorry guys, i should clarify a bit better. the amp in question isnt the ones in my sig.

i have 2 pos. and 2 ground inputs and no idea of what the fusing should be.

well, i do have some specs from the spec sheet, but nothing about external fuse sizes.

the amp is rated at:

1250RMS x 1 @ 4ohms

2250RMS x 1 @ 2ohms

3450RMS x 1 @ 1 ohm

all tested at 13.8V acoording to the sheet

@djman37..... why do you say no glass allowed? and wouldnt 4x50amp fuses work as well as a single 200amp blade fuse, assuming it asks for 200amps of fusing?

also...

i got 0/1 guage running to the rear. should i split it into 2- 4guages for both the positive and negative dual-inputs or must i run 2 runs of 0/1 guage in both pos./neg. inputs ??

thx for the help!

Glass fuses only go to 100 amps. You will need probably upwards of 400 amps of fusing for each amp being they are over 3000 watts. You can uses fuses like what you want though you would have to split two wires into four fuses which isnt ideal. Get four cheap fuse holders (parts express) and four 200 amp blade fuses.

I'm sorry you can't differentiate facts from semantics. Read, think, post! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
