using dmm

if my amp turns on and has a green light then voltage must be reaching the amp correct? and the hu is sending a signal. and it is sending voltage to the speaker outputs because i used the reading to check my volts to set the gain for my amp. i must have just wired it wrong when hooking it back up, but i dont see how. maybe when i took the sub out of the box i re-rewired it wrong lol. i dont know.

any more ideas please post them. i will rewire everything when i get back from school and let yall know whats up. thanks for the help so far!!

You removed the sub from the box? That was unnecessary for setting gains. What sub/how many and what voice coil specs so we can be sure you have it wired right?

i have a mach 5 audio 10" IXL dual 2 and a planet audio bb1350.1b amp

i wired all the minus and all the plus so that should give me a 1ohm load to the amp. im going to go take the sub back out and make sure its wired correctly again and check my wires inside the car. i have made this so much harder and all i want to do is listen to my fuking system lol!!!

Wait is there a difference between a dmm and a voltmeter? Back when I tried using a voltmeter to set my gains with a test tone, the numbers would not stop jumping all over the place.

u have to use a 50hz tone instead of a song.

so i used the dmm on my sub where the speaker wire goes. on one side it reads ~.007 and the other ~.001. does this mean a coil on my sub is messed up?

DMM = digital multi meter

You use it to measure voltage in alternating current form (ACV or VAC). Usually identified as V~

Like it was just mentioned, you need to use a test tone to get a constant voltage reading, because test tones have constant voltages.

if you put volt meter on ohm

and you put + to + meter lead to + coil

and - to - meter lead to - coil

each coil should read 2 ohm

you may have a blown sub

does it make a scratching sound when you push sub in
