using dmm

A DMM can do what a voltmeter does and much more. Where exactly did you place the prongs of the DMM?

And a DMM wouldn't have caused your sub to stop working. You need to double check your wiring. Something probably isn't connected right.

i placed the red prong in the positive terminal and the black in the minus terminal. i got it all adjusted now, i just cant get any sound and its really pissing me off... i have a feeling its something with the amp but i dont know why.

You could have popped a fuse on your amp or worse. Use your DMM on the continuity test option and touch it to both ends of all your fuses. If any fail, replace them. If they're all good then I'd try installing it in another person's vehicle if you have access to one to rule out your wiring as the problem.

probably because the tutorial you read gives a totally backwords way to set gains..
I didn't even look at the question that way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

OP, are you saying your sub isn't working at all or its output is really weak?

Not much you can do externally to determine if something in the amp has blown. You may be able to smell something burnt.

You could touch the dmm in DC mode to the power/ground to ensure voltage is reaching the amp and with the stereo on, touch the remote wire with pos and amp ground with neg to ensure your HU is sending the remote turn on signal.

To test to see if it is your RCAs, get a MP3 player and connect it to the RCA input of your amp. With your stereo on (volume can be off), you should be able to hear the MP3 through your sub.

If these check out I'd turn it to AC mode and with music playing somewhat loud I'd touch the speaker pos/neg. If the amp is blown I don't think it would send voltage to the speaker outputs.

If all those check out then I'd look to verify you have the speaker wired correctly.
