Using DMM and Setting Gains

Well it does have something to do with it because the higher the input voltage the lower the gain is gonna be set.
yes, use ohm's law to calculate what voltage output you should get.

then adjust the gain to achieve that voltage.

adjusting the gain is what compensates for the signal input voltage, that is why it's there!

as long as you're getting the correct voltage output then your signal's input voltage is not the problem.

you could try using a tone recorded at a lower level, which will force you to increase the gain sensitivity, and therefore make musical bass louder, but will also increase your chance of clipping.

 
Yea i did that but it just seems like my gain should be set higher because of what my deck's preamps are rated at. I did use ohm's law and i got the amount i needed and i set the gain to that amount but it just seems like it should be set higher. I used a 45 hz tone. Whats the difference in using a 40 hz or a 50 hz tone?

if ya use the -3 or -6 tones rap music will clip if ya use them for rock they hardly even hit that high, maybe -3 is the best i guess or 0, i use -3
