Using a Multimeter

Well i have attempted this before and it didnt make sense because i wasnt 100% sure what i was doing. I look at the sticky for gain setting and it said if you have a 500x1@ 2ohm amp then you do 2*500=250volts. Is this what i want the multimeter to read? Other than this. I have two basic questions

There is a red 10A DC and red VohmmA i used the 10 DC is this correct? the other one is a COM black.

And i have 4 main sections i can turn the knob there is a

V- with 200m,2000m,20,200, and 600

V~ with 500 and 200

A- with 200backwards u, 2000backwards u, 20m, and 200m

10A- in a white box

a plug looking thing

ohm sign with 200,2000,20k,200k, and 2000k

Which setting do i use to find volts or whatever i need to set the gain correctly?

I wish i had my instruction manual to help me work this thing but i cant find it. Any help is appreciated.

10A is for the 10A current measurement setting. you are wanting to use the one labled something like (V ohm mA Hz) and the black lead.

use V~, 200

volts you are looking for = square route of watts x resistance

or square route of 500(2) = 31.62 volts

Also, make sure your DMM is capable of making an accurate reading with the test tone you are using. For example, my DMM only reads accurately between 50 and 60 hz.
