use washers to raise the alternator?

you sturrin at me brah?
i'm still having trouble finding the right sized belt for my smaller iraggi pulley. its exactly 1/2 inch smaller in diameter than the stock pulley. my belt is tight enough to keep the truck running with a horrible squeal, and after running for a few minutes it will walk up on the edge of the power steering pulley and the squealing stops, everything works ok, but its gonna tear that belt apart. i think the iraggi's pulley may actually stick out a bit further than stock also to make it walk up on the edge like that, but i dont think it'll be a problem if its tight.

instead of getting a custom belt made (they come in 1/2 inch increments and i need 1/4 inch shorter than stock) i was thinking i could just stick a few washers between the alternator and the mounts to raise it up a hair and remove that slack. will that work ok, or will it cause me horrible alternator whine or something?

anyone good enough with math to tell me how much i need to raise it? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

i was thinking something like a half inch? i'm not sure exactly, but the stock belt is 95-100 inches around. when i had them measure it at advance auto they told me it was 35? put it on some tool that stretched it out and it was 35 stretched like that but wrapped a few inches around on each end, i'm not sure which measurement you actually use for the belt.

Getting it tighter may actually cause it to walk on the other pulley even more and shred it quicker. The pulley being out of line is probably what is causing it to walk rather than it being a little loose. If the pulleys don't line up properly you will most likely have issues with it from now on. For what you guys pay for these alts they should provide a product that fits correctly.

Stock pulley will destroy the output on the alt.
fixed it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

seriously though, some alts have to spin FAST before they even start putting out power...

i emailed dom and send a couple pics, hes sending me a new pulley that should sit closer to the alt so it stops walking. everyone on the explorer forums is telling me the automatic tensioner should take care of a minor pulley change like that with the stock belt.
