Upgrade alternator ground when doing big3?

I was purchasing some crap to do the big 3 and while the shop owner did not know the Big 3 by name, he knew the 3 wires to upgrade, BUT he said that he always upgrades the Alt. GROUND as well as the Alt 12+. I had never heard that, and it certainly cannot hurt, but is it necessary?

um... it's grounded to the engine block.... which it's bolted to...
Thats the purpose of the engine block to frame wire.
I was not sure on that. It looks like my puny alternator has a "dedicated" ground wire, which is what he was pointing to. I never thought abotu the fact that the GIANT METAL SLAB that it attaches to could serve as a ground (provided that that metal is well-grounded in its own right).

Thanks.
