unOfficial 2008 alpine iDA-X--- series HU thread

So I just installed my iDA-X200 the other day and am loving it! I'm using a 160GB Western Digital MyPassport Essential USB external hard drive with it. I formatted it to FAT32. I have 37GB of music on it, mostly mp3s. I have some FLAC and m4a files that I'm going to convert to mp3 because I don't really care about lossless formats. Anyways, its taking a long *** time to bank all my music, it sucks. Like 4 or 5 minutes per bank. I heard that deleting all your album art could speed up the banking time, so I deleted like a gig of that already.

Every artist has a folder. Every album the artist has has its own folder, which is inside the artist's folder. That's a lot of subfolders. If I just made all the albums root folders on my HDD do you think it'd speed up the banking process? Any tips..?

well in that case then yeh the less it has to read from the files the faster it will load. so i would just keep the title, artist and album tags and get rid of the rest.

I don't like iPods and I am a poor college student who is making do with what I got. Plus I got this HDD specifically 'cuz I heard they work with the iDA-X's, haha.
If you read through this thread you will notice that using a large HD via USB will be slow.

As I mentioned before, buy a used iPod, 5 gen or higher(you can find them for about $90 on your local CL ads). I don't like Apple as well, but for this instance just stash the iPod somewhere and call it a day. These HUs were made for iPod connectivity. When I used the X100, I had an iPod with about 80gigs of music and scrolling and playing a song is instantaneous.

agreed. i jus picked up a ipod 5.5 30 gb off ebay for 100.

Alright, so basically get rid of the Track, Year and Genre? These won't mess up any search features on the player? All my music files are in the same format, ##. Artist - Song ... I'm assuming that once I get rid of the Genre tags I can't play songs by Genre, not that I ever did anyways, haha.

I don't mind if it takes a few minutes -- just not 10, haha. Anything I could do to increase the banking time is fine by me, but if it'll take 5 minutes, I can deal with that!

Also, do you think reorganizing my music differently would help? Right now all my music is like this:

>Pink Floyd folder

--> The Wall folder

------> All the songs for that album in the album's folder

--> Dark Side of the Moon folder

------> All the songs for that album in the album's folder

Would changing it to this help banking times or harm them?:

>Pink Floyd - The Wall folder

--> All the songs for that album in the album's folder

>Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon folder

-->All the songs for that album in the album's folder

And so on?

ok so i have a quick question. is there any way to set the volume to when you start ur truck it always is at that volume? i hate turning my truck off when it's loud, then starting it again later and it still be loud and scare the shit outta me haha

LOL

I have iDA-X001 and recently broke that USB cord that connects the ipod to the cord that connects to the head unit. I tried using the white cord that came with my ipod that I use to connect to my computer, but the head unit gives me an Ipod Detection Error. Do I need to order another one of those black cords to get my ipod to read correctly again?

Are you guy's clocks on the x100 actually animated to "flip" numbers?

I just realized when the time changes, it doesn't really "flip". Instead, it just looks like its switching numbers instantly.... Is this normal?

Btw, is there a way to switch font colors? The background im using is mostly white and I can't seem to find out how to change font colors. I love my background but I can freaking see the text!
