unOfficial 2008 alpine iDA-X--- series HU thread

So I've just finished installing the new head unit, but I can't get any audio to come out when I connect my first gen-iPod Touch. The HU recognizes it and displays the song name, album, etc., but no sound comes through the speakers.
I can get the radio to work, however. What gives?
Wow with all that detailed information on your install I know exactly what is wrong. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Errr... Alright. My Chrysler's speaker wiring was messed up so the harness that I bought to use with this head unit didn't have the correct layout to match what was already on the vehicle. I used the Installdoctor chart to figure out which wires were which and connected accordingly. After a lot of work, that got the unit to power on and play the radio through the speakers, all of them. The unit is grounded to a screw on the chassis, and is connected to the antenna through the standard connection.

When I connect the ipod Touch to the usb cable that came with the HU, the ipod displays "Device Connected" and the HU shows the album art, song, artist, and album on the display. The playback time carries on as usual (ie the little bar that shows the progress in the song moves to the right as if it is playing the song) but no sound comes out of the speakers.

I've also tried using different USB cords to no avail.

Hi all. I had ordered a ida-x100 on Monday.

Then later in the day, my new Crutchfield catolog comes in the mail.

And I see this on the cover.

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500IDAX305/Alpine-iDA-X305.html?search=ida-x305&tp=5684

I pre-ordered it. Looks like the biggest diffrence between The ida-x100 and the ida-x305 is the Burr-Brown digital-to-analog converter.

Any thoughts?
I am contemplating the x100 and saw this in the catalog as well. Of note, Alpine lists the Burr Brown encoder in the specs for the x100 as well. Near as I can tell, the x305 is the same headunit with some chrome glued to the knob.

The x305 is already available in Asia so it's on the asia Alpine site now. Take a look, I can't find anything technically different unless I'm just missing something.

At this point I'm thinking I'll save the $40 on Crutchfield and go for the x100 -- honestly I think it looks better than the new one anyway

You might as well save the 50 bucks unless you like something about the 305.

BECAUSE it never ends. Come April or what ever there will be a perceived better one yet.

I have had the ida x100 now in my truck for less than a week and I like it more and more every day. About 3 weeks ago the ida x100 on crutch field was like $349

about 2 weeks ago it was $299 a week ago it was $269 and today its $259.99 and you get all the goodie install stuff with crutchfield I say go for it.

Ya I have been shopping them for the last 2 months I paid $250 on e-bay thinking I was saving $100. LOL LOL //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

I have just bought my first ipod to go with it the nano 4th gen it does turn on with the unit and it seems like its charging but it does not turn off I have to turn the ipod off no big deal to me. You can see the album art etc. Like I said I like it more every day.

I finally decided to pull the trigger on the x100. That price on crutchfield is really good, and the x305 doesn't seem to offer anything new -- you'd think for the extra $40 I had better get something but nope.

And again, I like the look of the 100 better too.

I think you will like it. The directions I printed them out are not in very good order almost backwards. Example its telling you how to adjust the sub woofer before it tells you how to turn the setting on for the sub. Thats just one example seems like the whole owners manual is that way.

I arranged a few select pages out of order just so I could make sense of it to keep in the truck for a couple weeks but getting around on the unit better everyday.

Heh. Well Alpine is a Japanese company I believe. In Japanese, books are read from back to front (at least as we in North America see it), so I bet that's where some of the organizational issues come from. I've seen it before -- the manual for my Dad's old Mitsubishi television was completely translated to english, but the pages were still bound back to front.

is there a way to download your own "personal" wallpapers, cuz i-personalize sucks *** there are lame pics on there.
I think that is discussed earlier in this thread. I recommend reading the whole thing, it's pretty informative.

New member here, hi all, have an '06 Pontiac Vibe...same dilemma x100 vs. x305...called Crutchfield they said the key differences were:

• Better screen resolution

• Better 3g iPhone compatibility

Found out that there is also an upgraded Bluetooth add on being released with the x305:

• KCE-400BT PARROT Bluetooth® MODULE

http://www.alpine-europe.com/home/products/bluetooth-usb/kce-400bt/

Hopefully this solves some of the voice quality complaints with Alpine's past units. I may hold out for the x305, if nothing else to compare them in person and make a call then. Crutchfield thinks they will be released in March.

You think the new Bluetooth module will work with the x100? That may help my decision.
