unOfficial 2008 alpine iDA-X--- series HU thread

dunno if it has been said before in this thread or nt but my new x100 will not work with my 3g iphone. that's a huge disappointment and it looks like i will have to sell it and go to the x305, but first a call to alpine to verify that it will work with the 3g.

My idA-X305 seems to sort all the iPod podcasts alphabetically rather them by the release date (like iPod or iTunes do). Is there any fix for that? This is a major flaw in my mind.

Any hope of Alpine ever releasing fixes to the firmware?

Will any of these HUs charge the iPod nano? Newest generation.
I can't say for sure but I have read quite a few places that the ida line can somehow destroy batteries in nanos. I don't know which version but I know I read at least 3 different places where people reported it killing them. The best thing to do would be to call alpine and ask them directly, but pray you get a competent person on the other line - I am 1 for 4 in that respect.

Here is a solution if you are having issues with an iPod giving a USB Device Error when using the USB cable. First reset the Head Unit and iPod. If that does not work, remove the USB cable from the back of the head unit. If that still does not fix the issue, replace the cable.

I finally got my X100 into the shop to be replaced. They were waiting on some other equipment to come in for me. The one part they don't know when it will come in, so we were going to install the rest today including a X305 to replace the X100. It turns out that one of the parts that came in was ordered incorrectly, so I'll have to wait on that.

After installing the X305 and hooking up my iPod, the HU displayed the USB Device Error. We tried 3 more iPods and each gave the error. I asked the installer if he had changed the USB cable and he said no, after we switched it out we got Error 01. We the reset the HU and it works great.

USB Device Error apparently is not the fault of your iPod or HU, the fuse in the USB cable gets damaged in some way.

Alright, I'm clueless.

I have a 16GB flash drive that I have been using. After adding more music, it froze and I had ro reformat inorder to get access to it.

After reformatting, it stopped working with my ida-x100. It shows the "no USB" message.

After this, I tried formatting it every format I could. Fat32, NTFS, exFAT.

NOTHING WORKS. I can use the flash drive any computer but not on my HU.

haaalp!

who has the imprint sound processor for the x100?

What are your thoughts on it? Is it worth the $100+ dollars or would it be easier to buy another crossover?

Who has used the actual imprint ability with the processor with the microphone ect?

I'm having some frustrating issues regarding USB stored media playback on my new ida-x305.

I have 2 different USB drives, and the headunit displays the same behavior with both so I know its not the drives. The 2GB is FAT, the 32GB is FAT32.

Initially I dumped ~2200 320kbit MP3's onto a 32GB USB flash drive, no folders just files on the root.

The headunit will let you browse the list of files (which is painfully, if not unusably slow) and play any file you want.

If you tell it to MIX folder, or MIX all... it will only randomly play back from the first 150-200 files or so, essentially only the #'s and A's. I tried dumping all the files in the root into folders from #, A, B through Z. Again.. the HU only will play the #'s and the A's from those 27 folders... irritating to say the least!

It does the same crap on the 2GB USB flash drive I have so I know its not the larger drive.

If I get to scrolling back and forth in the file list on the 32GB drive it gets soo slow and laggy the headunit basically locks up and you have to just turn the ignition off and back on.

I read this thread from page ~12 to current and haven't seen anything like what I'm experiencing. Alpine says 10,000 files/1000 folders and I'm not anywhere near approaching that limit.

Again.. If I want to manually scroll through the folders/files listing I can play back any file I want.. but when on MIX folder or MIX all modes.. it will only play the first 150-200files on the drive. I'm out of ideas to fix this //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

i was not happy with the x100/imprint kit nor with the x001 alone. neither one had very good sq imo. the auto tuning feature was pure crap.

Is it able to run an active setup with the imprint system?
yes

It does the same on mine. I was planning to use it with a flash drive but had to buy an iPod just to have the "shuffle all" capability. I have seen it reported more than once, e.g. check out the very first review on crutchfield.com

Didn't see the review you are talking about, but this isn't what I wanted to hear.
I'm hold on the phone with Alpine USA right now to see what they have to say about it. Sounds like its a known issue that should be noted in the product features and specifications so people that buy the headunit all but exclusively for this purpose don't get shafted.

I don't like iPods and have no desire to own one, I can't return the 32GB flash drive I bought to use with this headunit, nor can I return the headunit itself (wholesaler warranty by exchange only, no returns)

I'll post more when I get a hold of them.

i seem to remember something about alpine units having that very problem a lot. for some reason i remember that the mix mode only scans the first 2 or 3 folders on a drive, so it very well may be limited to a certain number of files if they are all in the root directory.
