Uneven excursion

Hello,

I have a question about my two 12s and their uneven excursion. The difference in excursion is not major and the reason it is happening is because one of the subs was recently reconed and the rubber surround is somewhat stiffer and possibly thicker than the older rubber surround. The subs hit at the same time but the older sub seems to continue moving after the new sub has stopped. My question is, am I losing significant dbs because of this and should I replace the old rubber surround to even it out.

It may be because of the box design and the way the pressure in the enclosure is unloading. If it was a sealed enclosure, then I would likely think the issue is either one of three things....spider is physically softer, coil might be weak/damaged, or air leak. The surround is an unlikely culprit.

It is a vented enclosure. Also the stiffness of the surround can easily be felt by touching the two. So, while it may be compunded by some of the things you listed, I am quite positive the rubber surround plays a role. They are mtx 9500s so the rubber surround sticks out and you can pinch it between your fingers feeling the difference

Well if one was just reconed and the other is all original,

the og sub will be looser vs the reconed sub.

The reconed sub, with the new parts, will be stiffer....

Op u answered your own question. the newer sub will be stiffer than compared to a sub thats prolly used for a couple yrs

Also, as Dan said, the spiders could be different on the reconed sub.. Who did the recone and what parts were used?

Regardless of the quality of the subs, my original question was am I losing significant db. And should I have the older one reconed as well to resolve this. Thanks for the unsolicited opinion about my backup subs tho, greatly appreciated
