Remind me of a high school physics project that went up in smoke...

Why I ever bought into the lies, hype, and BS associated with that brand, I'll never know.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

Edit: Had these to match

Love those transistors!!!

I was going to post that Earthquake...God, what were they thinking?!?!
Hey CRX, Don't you have this hideous Earthquake?!?!? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

That Earthquake looks like a bathroom scale or a playschool toy! I can't believe the amount of mosfets on that Linear. At least you know its solid tech compared to the new surface mount IC's.

The only downside is that it was only 30 to 40% efficient at its rated power with efficiencies dipping into the single digits at lower volume levels. I can't find the spreadsheet where one of my engineering buddies tested it, but I recall it pulling 85 to 95 amps at 500 watts RMS of output with input voltage at 14.4 volts. Well, that was when it wasn't busy going into protect because it sure as hell cycled on and off a lot in the various test tones at 4 ohms stereo and 8 ohms mono. It also averaged 40 amps of current draw to make 100 watts RMS at 8 ohms mono.

Now I see why they recommended an additional battery to run one of those 5002s back in the day.

Jesus Christ...I bet it's clean as hell though when it's running right!

My mistake was thinking I could use it as a subwoofer amplifier which just didn't cut it with my abusive listening habits. It would have been MUCH better suited for midbass duty or powering a set of components passively.

Additinally, no need to reference "max" anything as those specs are useless. Most of know how to look at specs for a given speaker, amp, HU, etc...

Hello all. Used to come on these forum quite a bit. I used to compete in IASCA MECA etc. and placed 1st 2x with this setup. Anyway this is my baby...

You don't need two amps. The speakers come with crossovers to help protect the tweeters.

Perhaps you changed something without mentioning it here? Maybe a loose turn on line? I dunno man...but we'll take it. Hopefully it keeps working. 👍
