Uber-Subwoofer Comparison

but it is still cool to think that these companies are more than will to give some of their product up to be tested against other companies flagship woofers
Yep...we've already done it with the 8 challenge

We were gonna do a 12 challenge...but since they've already stepped up...i dont see the point in doing it

No, you don't get it. You've never done SPL seriously have ya? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
It takes THOUSANDS of hours to get EVERYTHING you can get out of a speaker or amplifier.

The only thing this test can say is woofer X is louder then woofer Y in this given instance, in this given install.

"Optimal" from that manufacture is NOT "Optimal" for spl...trust me.
... thats not the point of the test. The test is to unbiasly compare how woofers perform in their recommended boxes, which is SQL... you are just talking about an SPL comp....doesnt make much sense...

Well is David going to give Ben a XXX or not? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

But I think his point is that people are going to look at this and say "Welp, look at that, subwoofer X is louder than subwoofer Z", forgetting that it was only louder in this particular test. Change a few variables, and the results could be much different.

And if they really wanted to have a meaningful sound quality comparison, they should do it in an open space rather than in a vehicle, since the enviorment (the vehicle) is going to have the biggest impact on the sound quality. So, they are really going to be telling us how the sub sounded in that particular vehicle, rather than how the sub itself actually sounds.

I think on the listening test the Solo X could sue more power, but to keep things on an even playing field, the Nine amp will do fine, and also to keep an even field, it will do good I suspect on the SPL test.

I still think its going to be helpful.

If the manufacturer's recommended box size isnt the best, they should change it, huh?

Granted, this is going to be vehicle dependent, but will still be interesting to see how each woofer stacks up. A decently made sub should do well in any vehicle, so that part of the criticism may be overrated.

:read the thread in the link...still same opinion:

You know **** good and well as i do that n00bishes will say "This is louder then this so buy these!"..and THESE **** "so and so whipped its butt" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

Still. At least there will be a point of reference to point them to, where they can see how a given sub will perform.

exactly... the only reason people are crucifying the experiment is

because eD is doing it...

if RE was doing it everyone would be fvcking jizzing on themselves

at how cool it was and how helpful the results will be...

no one crucified the great 8 challenge...

just take the results for what they are worth... if they are worth

nothing in your opinion then dont fvcking read them...

well just let those who purchase in ingnorance do so and those informed properly to do the same. I mean are any of these drivers really not loud enough? If the manufacturers are okay with the procedures and the enclosures are built to manufacturers recommendations its nobody's problem that some dweeb misinterprets the criteria and results.

And how is an open room best for listening to a sub designed for car audio? Arent car subs pretty much designed under the assumption that they will be assisted by cabin gain to strengthen and extend the lower frequencies that might otherwise be weak or missing in opening listening? Isn't that the reason you can get away with tiny sealed boxes in car audio where home audio usually require or call for much larger enclosures? I'm not trying to be sarcastic either, I realized output and extension can be measured and tonal qualities dont require cabin gain but can you really give an overall "subjective" opinion about how a car sub is performing in a gymnasium? Wont not listening in a car only tell you which one sounds better in home use? Especially considering the specs of the enclosures are being given with car audio in mind (wouldn't box recommendations for open listening be quite different than specs for mobile listening?)

RE wouldn't do it because they are smart enough to admit it represents a conflict of interest and wouldn't cross into that territory.

No one crucified the great 8 challenge because the users involved didn't belong to a competing company.
