Uber-Subwoofer Comparison

Hey guys, I thought some of you might be interested in this. Basically, it is a comparison of “flagship” subwoofers.

PLEASE NOTE: Suggestions for additional subwoofers are not being entertained. The ICIXSound thread is only for discussion and the debate should be minimized. The manufacturers and companies are being directed towards this thread and inappropriate posts will not be tolerated. Your comments are welcome; however, if you have something directed towards the coordinating staff please use e-mail.

The testing will include:

Measurements of peak and average SPL

Frequency response graphs

“Blind” level-matched listening with approximately 3-5 judges

Each subwoofer will have its own sealed AND ported enclosure built to the specifications that the manufacturer would like used for this particular test.

So far the companies that have pledged to provide a subwoofer are:

Image Dynamics IDMAX12

Kicker Solo X S12X

Orion 12” H2

JBL W12GTI and a JBL BPX2200.2

JL Audio 12W7

Great appreciation goes out to all the companies that have chosen to participate. We hope this will be very beneficial and informative to car audio enthusiasts.

Well we have about 2400 watts on tap plus that JBL amp, so hopefully that will get it moving pretty good. I guess Tracy can confirm or disconfirm this.

No it's not - It takes thousands of hours of testing and building to get everything you can get out of a particular subwoofer...

The only thing it will give is this woofer is louder then that woofer in this given install.

We'll be using the boxes recommended by the manufacturer to make their speakers shine. All will be constructed to their specs.

It takes THOUSANDS of hours to get EVERYTHING you can get out of a speaker or amplifier.

The only thing this test can say is woofer X is louder then woofer Y in this given instance, in this given install.

"Optimal" from that manufacture is NOT "Optimal" for spl...trust me.

but it is still cool to think that these companies are more than will to give some of their product up to be tested against other companies flagship woofers
