will the alpine type x work better in a vented or sealed box, looking for spl so i would guess vented but i havent been able to hear it in a vented box??? so lemme know whats up please

They are not spl subs. If you want spl and want to go with Alpine, then get type r's.

They pound ported and sound awesome. I was very disappointed with it sealed. They arent spl woofers but pound out some awesome lows and just sound amazing. If all you are worried about is getting loud, then you have better choices.

It sounds great. It sound so good I went out and purhased another one. hopefully my new 2-12' custom box(ported) will be done tomorrow. But I am going to have to get me a Kicker 2500.1 or a Orion 2500d my little MTX 1501d ain't going to be able to hang with the double X's. I will just have to keep banging on my L7's until I can upgrade the amp.(without my wife knowing). These guys are right about the spl. They don't hit as hard as the L7's but have AMAZING SQ. Good luck on yours, they are power hungry. LATER !!!!

They hit alot harder than I expected especially with a modded MTX 1501d. The lows are great, clean and very accurate sound. My SUV just does'nt rumble anymore the whole thing had a very deeep roar and rumble. They get decently loud. Though I will never port these subs again, they are not meant to be ported IMO.

I hear some people say they sound like crap sealed and others say ported is the only way to go. My box builder recommended ported because he has installed both. Mine ported sounds great There are some music that it just does'nt sound right. but for the most part I think they sound pretty descent. I am trying to sell my MTX 1501d to upgrade on the amp. See if that makes a diffrence.

No ported box is ever perfect for ALL music, i would say ~2x output is worth a few frequencies that don't sound so hot.

Unfortunately, they stopped making it right before i snagged one, but the kenwood xxv-03a amp actually had an adjustable midrange bandpass to drop those nasty port-noise frequencies. I'd never seen those before. Only other alternative is setting your ssf really conservatively, but that's pretty unnecessary.
