What is the difference? Are the old style still good woofers?

I found 2 of the old style locally for 100 or b/o they are kinda beat up but work great. SO i was going to offer 50-75.

those look pretty rough, what happened to them? if you can get them cheap I would buy them and maybe get some grilles or downfire them.

I heard a pair of the 12's sealed on a memphis 500d a few years back and they sounded pretty good and decently loud for the install. They were the older style like those. I believe they aren't as good as the newer ones though.

What makes them physically different besides the different surround? A buddy bought an old style one and I'm curious, so he don't blow it or anything.

Older ones are more efficient, less power to get them moving. Not as loud as the new ones though...

i have 1050 at 1 ohm i am not sure on the coils but hopefully i can wire them down to that as a temp set up.

I am prob going to get them. as long as i can wire 1 or both of them down to 1 ohm or 2 ohm. It sucks with out bass.

Just emailed him and asked if he would accept 50 due to the rough shape and age. so hopefully i can pick them up for 50-75 and build a box this week at school.. ( comes with a prefab) I will prob upgrade to another amp sometime too.
